Reflections from Current Students

A few students currently completing the Bachelor of Commerce program were eager to help out those that are interested in attending Dalhousie University. They decided to choose this program over others for different reasons.

James Cromack (BCom '21) decided to go to Dal because:
"I chose Dalhousie for the emphasis on its three mandatory Co-ops. Over the course of my university career, I can attest that doing three professional work experiences definitely impacted both my studies and professional learning skills. In addition, a chance to live and grow in a different environment that was unique."

Angie Chia-Baxter (BCom '22) also wanted to add:
"My reason for choosing Dalhousie was because I gravitated towards the mandatory co-op within the program. Other programs had the option for co-op, but I truly don't know if I would have pushed myself to do it if it was only an option. It made the idea of my 4 years of university something I could enjoy and just give me the opportunity to gain experience. In addition, it was an opportunity to explore a different province in Canada and still be close to home (Ontario)."

To help out high schools figuring out where they want to go after graduation, these students have some wise words to share.

James wanted everyone to know:
"My advice for Grade 12 students right now would be to keep your options open when it comes to applying to schools/programs. However, start narrowing in on something that you love/are good at. The quicker you can get to that spot the more efficient and effective you will be through university and into the job market."

Meanwhile, Angie's advice is:
"For anyone applying for university, know that it is okay if you aren't 100% sure about what you want to do right out of high school. If you get your foot in the door for one program and realize it isn't for you, there are options to change/move around to what will suit you best. Another piece of advice is to work hard but also have fun, there are so many aspects of university life that are great so you definitely don't want to miss out!"
